Thanks to all the fantastic exhibitors for creating a lovely atmosphere and for helping us to raise vital cash for Breakthrough.

There were fabulous jewellery displays from Barbra and beauty products to buy from Beauty Temple. Gorgeous accessories from Pink & Lilly and lingerie by Jolie were on show and the guests enjoyed hair styling from the team at Saks. Aloe vera gels and juices from Jeanette at Forever Living and makeup by Karen of Vie at Home proved popular as well as cutting edge beauty treatments at Lousie Langfords Beauty Clinic.
Estilo had a varied collection of bags, costume jewellery and homeware and Nicola from Phunky Fotos did a great job promoting the photographic talents of the team at their west bridgford studio!

The chocolate fountain was also a favourite with the guests so thanks to Hilary and Rachel for serving us up delicious Belgian Chocolate dips!

Thanks also to the attentive team at Fire & Ice including Francesca who helped make the event run smoothly and keep everyone happy with yummy pink cosmopolitan cocktails. The food was excellent and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Sam the bouncer for looking after our guests as they arrived.

Thank you to my sister Sara who took on the task of Ticket Sales at the door, you did a really good job!

A massive thanks to Elaine Ellison who represented Breakthrough for announcing at various stages of the night and for the encouraging speech on the Charity’s work on research, education and campaigning for a future free from the fear of breast cancer. It was lovley to have Elaine with us for such a great fund raising evening!

I have been finalising the exhibitor line up and I’m pleased to announce that we have the support of brand new clothes shop Estilo (which means “Style” in Spanish!) They stock a fantastic range of dresses, denim and knitwear at affordable prices so check out thier boutiques at Mapperley Top and Radcliffe on Trent.

I also bought my outfit this week from Estilo – its a shocking pink dress so don’t be afraid to dress up ladies-you won’t be the only one!

I also have the pleasure of reporting that we will be having two luxury Chocolate fountains courtesy of Belgian Bliss Chocolate Fountain Co. Run by Hilary Davis and her husband they will be serving up delicious belgian chocolate with a range of treats for dipping!

Breakthrough use funds raised to buy vital equipment which helps towards research into finding a cure for breast cancer. Here are some examples of what your support can buy:

• £5 buys 100 microscope slides needed to look at cells in great detail under a microscope– enabling scientists to better understand breast cancer and develop new treatments.

• £10 buys storage containers for the blood samples used in the ‘Breakthrough Generations Study’ so that they can be kept safely for 40 years or more. These samples will help scientists discover the causes of breast cancer.

• £125 buys a pipette for measuring liquid ingredients, meaning scientists can conduct each experiment into breast cancer and its treatment with great precision.

We are getting in touch with you today to share news of an important research discovery from our scientists at the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).

We are delighted to report that Breakthrough scientists have discovered that a new cancer treatment could be used with about a third of breast cancer patients. They could also be used for a significant proportion of prostate, colon, and intestinal cancers. This is particularly exciting because the drugs, called PARP inhibitors, work in a targeted way, which means fewer side effects for patients.

Here is the summary of the findings from Professor Alan Ashworth, Director of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at the ICR, who led on this research:

“I think this new class of drugs represents a real breakthrough in cancer treatment.

“A clinical trial has shown this year that these drugs could be used to treat rare forms of cancer that run in families. Importantly, this drug, given in tablet form, had very few side effects, unlike chemotherapy.

“Our scientists have now shown that PARP inhibitors could be used to treat thousands of patients. These include common cancers such as breast, skin, womb, prostrate or intestinal cancer.

“We still need to await the results of clinical trials but we are optimistic these drugs have a big future. This shows the real benefits of applying cutting edge science to cancer treatment.”

These results have made front page news and I have attached just some of today’s articles which I hope you will enjoy reading.

This week I sourced the Pink Ribbon Gift bags from paperbagco – they are hot pink with a beautiful pink satin ribbon. They are gorgeous and I would like to thank paperbagco.co.uk for kindly removing the delivery charge to help keep our event costs down

I have also ordered pink balloons to decorate the bar from Breakthrough Breast Cancer and I’m sure they will look great while promoting the charity we are raising funds for!

Next week I will be looking for items to go into the goody bags such as perfume and makeup samples – all donations are greatfully recieved! If anyone has an idea for something they would like to see go into the pink gift bags then please let me know and I will do my best to include it!
